Britannica.com says that it was introduced during Charle Magne's reign, it's derived from neumas, a musical symbol used in Gregorian Chants.

Hmm well I'm not sure if I'm right but... What I heared was it was derived from:

 

A cat... You know, curios cat, curios people ask questions.

 

? <--- Top part being the tail, Bottem, well....

 

 

Now, I'm not sure if this is correct. But that's what I've been told.

I must admit I can see a catlike quality in a question mark...

 

...or should I say a question mark in a cat?
