Sectors' importance

Question

Hi everyone, I have discovered this great game since a few weeks, I have played, seach your cool web and I have got a lot of interesting tips for taking my play-level further.

Now, I have downloaded RebEd (great tool too)

I was curious about the way the sectors are clasified into high, medium or low importance.

Why? What does it mean to the practical game? May the AI try to conquer frist worlf of high imp. and then medium in order to leave to the end of colonizing the low imp planets?

Have the low less resources (energy) than the medium? I have tried to find out a rule, but I have found nothing.

Well, thanks in advance for your help

May the force be with you!

Yeah good question. I don't get it either.

My best guess would be it's for the Ai to classify importance... Core Worlds should always be the most "important" though especially if your a rebel because no Imperial in there right mind goes on a Death Star destroy planets spree in the Core Worlds. Whereas your heavy duty fortress in the outer rim might very well get destroyed by a Death Star.

I'm not 100% sure either, but since the resources are random, a set importance wouldn't make sense. What I think is something like a Death Star attack destroying a system would affect the galaxy in different amounts depending on the systems importance.

Don't mind me, I like to quote.

I believe it has something to do with the way the AI sets out planets at the beginning of the game. I changed all my sectors to high and they all had colonies in the sectors.

So wait a minute...did you get the AI to move more into the outer rim? I find in most of my games that the AI just stays for the most part in the Core and thats it. Since I am imperial usually...I trounce the AI somewhat fast. But it would be great if the AI actually colonized the outer rim.

In most of my games the rebels do colonize at least some of the outer rim planets that are already colonized. I have a variety of settings for the sectors.-Grand Moff Conway

Using RebEd choose Galaxy Mapper & click on the chosen sector. in the top right you will see the info for this sector, set importance to high and make sure the 'colonized' checkmark is not visable (or neutral planets will have control).

I believe that is how i did it :)

I believe you have to click on each individual system within the system and check off Colonized for the AI to go after it. I did this once because I just wanted a big space battle, and they ended up with like 3/4 of the outer rim as theirs. Needless to say the end battle was fun with like 400-600 ships on either side.

I have the experience that the AI as the rebels anyway only goes after planets with diplomacy (that aren't mine anyway) in the outer rim, no matter what I set the Sector importance at. If it isn't colonized they don't bother with it. Go figure :? -Grand Moff Conway
