media attention

Well, people like particularly brutal crimes. Maybe "like" isn't the correct word, rather, people are encaptured by them I'm not sure how or why some of them gain national publicity over others, but I'm sure there is some sort of credentials the news agencies have to decide what gets aired.

Maybe focusing on one particular crime allows us to ignore the others, or at least block them out to some degree.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

why do some crimes get alot of attention when they happen every day like the lacy petterson thing.

Like the what? :?

Some rather brutal crimes get a lot of attention, because of people's morbosity. Newspapers, TV News, function just like anything else these days. It's a matter of rating. While the average viewer is already jaded by the eventual gore and violence scenes in entertainment( Movies, tv series, etc), they'll be interested that such thing actually can happen in real life and to the average person. It's the same mechanic behind reality show, and such. Always wanting to relate situations and event from fiction to "real" people, without living them.

As GAT said some crimes get more attention than others. Brutal murders, serial killers, etc get a lot of attention. Affairs of public figures also get a lot of attention. And Iraq, afganisthan have become exclusively media wars.

The more violence the more media attention.

Over here we don't hear much about bloody murders because we don't have many of those in peaceful switzerland.
