Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted December 13, 2004 Posted December 13, 2004 Thist really should be in the suggestions thread, but since it will be greaphic-heavy, I thought it best to make a new topic. Alrigh. I just finished playing a game as the Empire, no restrictions on the tech. My fleet was as follows: 1 Executor Class Command Ship1 Sovereign Class Command Ship1 Allegiance Class Cruiser5 Imperator II Class Destroyers5 Imperator III Class Destroyers10 Victory II Class Destroyers8 Victory I Class Destroyers10 Lancer Frigates6 Carrack Light Cruisers6 Loronar Strike Cruisers2 Eidolon Striker Cruisers25 Squadrons of TIE Interceptors25 Squadrons of TIE Defenders10 Squadrons of Assault Gunboats20 Squadrons of TIE Bombers All of this, agains: 3 Bulwarks1 Independance7-8 Mon Cals of the basic designs (winged and un-winged that is, toal of 16 or so)1 of the stubby green guys1 Mon Remonda10 Squadrons of B-Wings10 Squadrons of Y-Wings4-5 Republic Destroyers Now, my first rant. How was I defeated? I can see taking heavy losses, but I was barely able to dent any of the rebel ships, taking out only five or six ships, none of them the big ones. Yet my entire fleet was destroyed. Not only that, but the Bulwarks and the Independance were able to withstand two full broadsides from my combined fleet. To me this simply isn't possible. Any suggestions/comments? SWR Staff - Executive EvilleJedi Posted December 13, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted December 13, 2004 hehe I'll tell you exactly why you lost 1) the independance is a mobile planetary shield for all intents and purposes, it can't do any damage, but its roughly equivalent shielding to the executor to anything other than the highest yield weaponry, though I agree the bulwark seems to have a little too much staying power (its supposed to be an older ship anyway) 2) at least two of the 'normal' calimari ships you specified (especially the bottom two on the first pic) are actually mediators, the absolute top of the line NR battlecruiser from new jedi order (60 level 10 TLs 40 heavy proton torpedos) 3) the executor is not fully armed yet and the sovereign is bugged, essentially reducing your firepower by 1/3-1/2 4) ISDs are very good at doing damage, but are rather poor at taking it (the shields are weaker but quicker recharging than rebel ships) this is especially true of the ISD II and allegiance, the ISD III has significantly better shielding 5) MC-90s, republic destroyers and nebula destroyers are roughly equivalent to ISD IIs, rejuvenators are roughtly equivalent to ISD III/allegiance what defeated you was essentially more modern technology (ROTJ era vs NJO) cool screens btw
Krytos Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Not sure how you lost with that arsenal. Though, I did notice in your screenshots that there were a lot more Alliance ships than listed. Your first screenshot shows at least 2 MC-90s, 1 Indpendance, 3 (maybe 4) Bulwarks, 2 MC-80a, 1 MC-80 Liberty, 3 MC-80 Maximus', 1 MC-80b Mon Remonda, 2 Mediators, 1 unknown MC, 3 Republic SDs, 1 Rejouvornator (sp?) SD, and another unknown ship. There were also the shipyards - though those I would think could hardly take on an ISD. Your second screenshot defintely shows 4 Bulwarks, as well as most of the other larger ships - though it's so cluttered you can't tell who's who. And the thrid screenshot shows 1 Mediator, 1 MC-90, 1 Independance, 1 MC-80a and a RSD being detroyed as well as an unkown ship exiting a shipyard and one of the ships that looks like the DSD (ie. DSD, EFC and RSD) exiting another shipyard. Still, with your Executor and Soverign I would think, after heavy loses, you would prevail. No idea how you lost http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 I wasn't paying really close attention to the types of the Mon Cals. Upon closer inspection, many of what I assumed to be early-generation Mon Cals were really more advanced NJO ships (as pointed out by Eville). I didn't know that the Executor was so under armed, but I quickly found that the Sovereign was bugged. Many of he ships that you have taken for Rebel Krytos are actually my frigates. The rebels only built larger capitol ships, and very few ships below an MC-80. I hadn't realized that the Empire becomes so un-advanced with the later eras, though I'm sure that would be fixed if the super-caps were all up to snuff. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
SWR Staff - Executive EvilleJedi Posted December 14, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted December 14, 2004 yeah once the exec is fully armed it will be the best ship in the game, it just requires about 100 more hardpoints for heavy weaponry (which is a pain to rename them all in maya)
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 To make me feel better after my earlier defeat I set the restrictions to ANH and gave the computer lots of breathing space to build. When I attacked I had 20 VSD Is, 20 VSD IIs, and 10 ISD Is, plus 50 TIE Fighters (which were destroyed in a dust cloud before they could make it to the battle). Much to my surprise I was facing a Katana Fleet, litteraly. I counted upwards of 213 Dreadnaughts, as well as a liberal smattering of about 47 Y-Wing Squadrons, which surprisingly didn't see much action. In the end I was the victor, but only because their Dreadnaughts were split apart, formed into six small groups. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
SWR Staff - Executive EvilleJedi Posted December 14, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted December 14, 2004 heh wow, well the AI is designed to try to match your offensive capabilities, but that is sick (screeneies?)
Krytos Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Here's what I see in your first screenie GAT http://img35.exs.cx/img35/1259/ss000007ecid1df.jpg Hey Eville, I've just built an Indepence and it has a green sphere projected around it when selected - what's it for? ? http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
SWR Staff - Executive EvilleJedi Posted December 14, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted December 14, 2004 increases accuracy to friendlies, exec, allegiance and titan have those too
Krytos Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Ah, interesting. Are there any other Alliance ships planned to have this? http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted December 14, 2004 Author Posted December 14, 2004 I hadn't taken any screen shots of the game, so I tried to duplicate it. This time, however, I was in for more of a surprise. I hadn't realized that during the ANH era the Rebellion can build Bulwarks. Apparentlym the AI was well aware of this. They didn't build as many Dreadnaughts, but you can see where the resources for about 150 of them has gone. http://img132.exs.cx/img132/2495/ss000080hg.jpghttp://img17.exs.cx/img17/6083/ss000097zu.jpghttp://img17.exs.cx/img17/7681/ss000100xd.jpghttp://img17.exs.cx/img17/3489/ss000116va.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/7788/ss000126ar.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/2213/ss000131rk.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/2289/ss000145fa.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/5092/ss000156ug.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/4350/ss000161hh.jpghttp://img83.exs.cx/img83/2746/ss000172nv.jpghttp://img118.exs.cx/img118/9530/ss000191gt.jpghttp://img118.exs.cx/img118/2616/ss000200vc.jpghttp://img118.exs.cx/img118/904/ss000210zl.jpghttp://img118.exs.cx/img118/5505/ss000221pf.jpg It was quickly evident that fighting wasn't going to get me anywhere, since they were building Dreadnaughts and Bulwarks faster than I could destroy them, so I focused only on their construction, using hyperspace to jump around their base. In the end I won, but with heavy losses. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
