Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 They're doing some sort of biological research that needs heavy calculations. The client you can download will connect you to them and they will use your computers processing power to augment their own, creating a sort of "internet supercomputer". An intersting concept, but I'm a little concerned about the security aspect. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
the_mask Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 It's comparable to "S.E.T.I. at home", which I don't know, if it's still running. But yeah, the security aspect is quite important, as well as having a broadband connection http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Lord_La_forge Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Security aspect?SETI is still running it's clients. I was a member too, and served them with my broadband. But somehow, I think this is more important, so if this really helps, I'll gladly spend my cpu for that too.
Stellar_Magic Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 I heard SETI got a possible signal abotu two months back, they're still trying to confirm it. Stellar_Magic Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Yep, SETI at home based at Aresebo. They got a wierd signal and are trying to confirm it. The thing is the signal is coming from a point in deep space with nothing around it for over ten light years. It's doppler shift is huge, the Scientists don't know what to make of it. Of course there's the possibility that someone hacked SETI at home's software. http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996341 Then Nasa is planing on launching a Solar Sailor next year as a test. It's suppose to have a sail 700m in diameter, of course with photon pressure the size of the actual "Ship" has to be tiny. Guest Scathane Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Well, it's quite the story. I'm curious as to how it'll end...
