Fighter numbers and groups

Each fighter type has a default group. However, if I remember well, it can happen that a type uses more than a single group (color) when there are many of them and there are no other types of fighters. If this is true could anyone tell me the number of squads above which that happens? Or is it only my memory playing tricks with me?

Pfff, I think above 12 squads were sure to have several color-groups. Maybe it also works with > 6

I belive it is >6 (that's greater than 6 for those of you that flunked math......just kidding ).
