Imperial Transmission: Code Death Star

In one of my gaming stories I had an interesting comment from Trev regarding Death Star use/construction etc. Trev was of the opinion that the Death Star is not very useful as they are vunerable to fiendish X Wing attacks. This of course is true.

My feeling though is that just the mere 'presence' of a Death Star ( I'm talking multiplayer here obviously ), is a huge prestige boost to the Empires striking power and general 'fear' factor for the Rebellion player.

Usage of DeathStar deployment is somewhat limited, as I only every use the DeathStar to eradicate the Rebel Base ( once my brave fearless spies have found out the location) and I am able to 'sneak' up on the Rebel Base before showing the galaxy the true futility of resistance to the Empire. It is also useful for laying an ambush for enemy fleets (aka Return of the Jedi type of ambush ).

The problem with the DS is of course the huge numbers of units (especially fighter units ) that are required to defended it :x

Have any other Imperial players got any thoughts on Death Stars usage, or do others think they are a huge waste of resources? I'm only talking about multiplayer here

Any thoughts anyone???

I find a bunch of Star destroyers can do the sdame job. But i must admit its very fun to blow to smitherines the admiral ship of the enemy before they can do anything

Well me only doing one Multiplayer with my Brother, that only lasted about 200 Days, I didn't get to finish my death star, (Him Being The Stepeling Rebels) My 2 VSDs Trashed his 1 Escort Carrier And 2 Medium Transports, He Claimed I was Using Cheat Codes And Quit. (But We All Know There are no Cheat codes for Rebellion, and the only way for me to be "Cheating" was to use Rebed however, I Did't use rebed, and I'd have to ditribute the Mod to Him for me to play a Multiplayer with him), So the Game ended after that battle

Any How, When ever I finish my Deaths star I give them a butlode of Fighters to Defend it, Therefore Have A great Time as the Rebels Ship Get Shredded By ,My SSDs and blown away by my Death Stars.

All in all, I think Building A Death Star is worth it, but do whatever you want to do, Just make sure you Have fun.

Kaja

the death star is good but i find 3-4 superstar destroyers are superior naval vessals. i actually served on one based in the arabian sea in IRAN area. perhaps you heard of it. USS Admiral Thrawn. it's a good ship boys.

Here is a little song I sung on that beautiful tub during long days in dee sea. My Mates called me incredably Gay. But, I ignored them.

On the good ship Lollypop

It's a sweet trip to a candy shop

Where bon-bons play

On the sunny beach of Peppermint Bay

Lemonade stands everywhere

'Cross the de-e-eck spans belly air

And there you are

Happy landing on a chocolate bar

See the sugar bowl do the Tootsie roll

With the big bad Bell's Fruit Cake

If you eat too much, ooh-ooh

You'll awake with a tummy ache

On the good ship Lollypop

It's a nice trip into bed you'll hop

And dream away

On the good ship lollypop

On the goo-oo-ood ship lollypop

It's a swee-ee-eet trip to a candy shop

Where bon-bons play

On the sunny beach of Peppermint Bay

Lemona-a-ade stands everywhere

'Cross the de-e-eck spans belly air

And there you are

On the goo-oo-ood ship lollypop

And dream away (dream away)

Hmmmm........ I think I'll have a pint of what you've been drinking or should I say I find your lack of faith disturbing

I was thinking more along the lines of Grand Strategy. The Death Star is basically a 'terror' weapon albeit one endowed with enormous destructive power.

On the whole I will use them but very very selectively due to their negative impact on planet loyalty, which brings us nicely to the subject of bombarding planets with fleet ships.

Again I'm reluctant to use this option unless

a) The whole sector is rebel controlled, in which case I will go for it, or

b) Early on in the game when there are lots of neutral planets in a sector my diplomats have not got to yet

Don't Forget, It dosen't only affect the Sector that the System was destroyed in, I affects the whole galaxy. Also if you Destroy a Core World it will have more Impact on Popular support than if Destroy a rim world :!:

Exactly, and that is what makes their use somewhat limited. The Death Stars real power is 'a threat in being' so to speak. The Domino effect of indiscriminate use of the Death Stars 'ultimate' usage at the wrong time in the game can be catastropic for the Empires 'cause'.

My opinion is its a surgical terror weapon, rather than one that gets used all the time, but coupled with the enormous expense, plus the resources devoted to defending it from those pesky X Wings, makes the Imperial player really have to think about what he is going to do with it.

The most satisfying use for it is the ambush of course with plenty of fleet units and Interdictor cruisers to stop the Rebels from just scooting off, so they get decimated one by one :P

No cheat codes ?

Hmm, remember I do, that typing 1799 SUPER in orbit around Coruscant, gave me something once.

Dunno, if you had to be imperial or rebel for this to work, though

Mask: But the battle Didn't take place at Coruscant, nor did I know about that code, But the battle took place at Yavin IV.

Cheat Codes????

Cheat codes are surely for cheats, and to use one in a multiplayer game would be unforgiveable.

This game is certainly deep and requires lots of forward planning when playing multiplayer, because that is where its true strength lies.

I personally would consign anyone employing cheat codes to Imperial Prison Planet IPP101, to be endlessly tormented by IMP22 saying things like 'What do you think you are doing', and 'I think you have misunderstood the concept', plus being made to watch something like neighbours for all eternity. A real hell on earth, ( or on IPP101 anyway )

I Agree, Cheaters should be Pulped in to there Seats. I only Use Cheatcodes when:

1. I beat a game

2. I beat a game

and 3. when I beat a game

And I NEVER NEVER NEVER use Cheatcodes in multiplayer, Unless you call setting all the Ability to have infinate units, and thats play on the same side as my brother!

CHEAT CODES 8O8O8O8O8O8O8O8O8O8O8O IN REBELLION!!!

I have already used cheat codes in other games but... Rebellion. Come on. Who needs them. Its the kinda game where if you want to win you must be patient and methodical. And if you don't have those qualities you should develop them.

Well if you want to cheat alone. Go ahead doesn't really bother me (even if you shouldn't)

But in Multiplayer... its plain dishonest and if you play against somebody it is to rpove you are a better player NOT cheater.

[back on subject]

Depending on how the game's going, I typically try and build a ds with shields at Coruscant, and at another planet like Endor. The one at Endor (or wherever) is part of my prison planet. Where all of my rebel inmates go to rot. I'll put them on Coruscant at first, but then it's off to the spice mines. =o) Get my troops upgraded, and my ship tech. a bit higher, and they get dark trooper garrisons, a ds with shields, and a very respectable fleet to gaurd above, also with dark troopers. If the game's going just the way I like it to, I'll usually have officers in place on the ground, and on the gaurding fleet with full defender squads, and constant esp. missions from either a character/esp. droid. If I get that to that point in the game, you prob. wont be around long enough for the second ds, but hey, it's happened. =o)

I didn't know that either.

Somehow Iwas under the impression that I had dreamt this thread, it just didn't seem possible.

I sometimes build a Deathstar it depends on cash supply and my mood. When I do build one I stock it with advanced fighters either TIE Defenders or TIE Raptors. I also include Victory or Victory II's, Carracks, and an Interdicter. Since I typically build at Coruscant there is a DS shield in place to defend it at the home port. I use it to bombard planets as an offensive weapon to sway neutral planets and conquer rebel ones. The only time I actually use the superlaser is to destroy the rebel HQ. I try to build a safe planet with a DS shield in each core sector.-Grand Moff Conway

I remember using the Superlaser about 3 timnes since i bought zthe game. i stopped using it after i saw the negative effect it had on the loyalty level through out the galaxy.

Interestingly it only effects the core planets, the rim planets loyalty are not effected. But having your core planets all drop down is a real drag and makes your diplomats overly busy.-Grand Moff Conway

I like to use at least one detah star per game, usually just as a Coruscant defense system, but I have had 2 DSs in some games, and that second one I used to destroy the rebel planets 1 by 1.
