Hi,

 

does anyone know of a working plugin (3dsm, milkshape, ... whatever) to convert the HW2 .hod files to 3ds or some other usable format ?

After looking high and low I found some plugins for Milkshape, that wouldn't work with my 1.6 version and also not with 1.7 :?

or you could just ask, however the ships are too high detailed for other games, but too low detailed for rendering purposes, with most of them being 5k + polys and having at least 1024x1024 worth of textures.

:lol: I already did a long time ago, you just didn't notice :roll::wink:

Rebellion should do fine with models up to 10k polys. As for texture maps, well, I usually don't go over 512, but that's just a matter of resizing :D

 

So apart from the generous offer (I'll PM ya :D), these plugins don't really work, do they ? I noticed a thread on rdn, where you and some others speculated about writing another plugin, but IIRC you were missing the info on how the 3ds files are made up, right ?

I think I found at least a partial solution to this: on the max cd there are the cpp and .h files for the 3ds export plugin in cab file 4 or 5. Lots of C++ lines (some of them went over my head when I read them at 2AM, though) with a few funny comments.
