Well, I just saw Aliens versus Predator the other day - and I've decided to put in the good movie catagorie. Still, I think it's a rent the video type of movie. It's extremely predictable and follows the formula of Alien 3 and Predator 2 - I would have liked it to be along the lines of either Alien or Aliens.

Still, it's no-where near as bad as reviews I had read and heard. It has it's good points and it's bad. Something that I was glad about was that the movie didn't contridict (too much) the other movies in the series or games.

I'll leave it at that so I don't spoil any of it for those who havn't seen it -after all, there are a few twists :roll:

Frankly i often only read the reviewsa once i've seen the film. Its strange that most of the films made by some Hindu with a ten buck budget will always get the best review when big budget ones like Riddick don't.

I haven't seen avp but i intend to once it come out.

Kill Bill. I saw the one and enjoyed but frankly the second I found much much much much less good (note that the reviews gave the second a better review)

About good films... All the Monty Pythons are good. I found Holy Grail was the best, meaning of life was also very amusing. i found Life of Brian less good but also enjoyed it.

I think most people like RotJ more than ESB (myself included) because it felt more... real. For me the only satisfying part of ESB was the Battle of Hoth, after which I tend to loose interest. Cloud City seemed fake, both in the original and in the subsequent changes made in the Special Edition. I know it was fake, but the ultimate goal of a fantasy/sci-fi director is to make their vision believable.

The Battle of Endor felt real, both the ground battle and the space battle, and hte confrontation between Vader and Luke did't have the fealing of certainty that the ESB duel did. How many people, when they watched ESB for the first time. thought that Luke would defeat Vader? In RotJ, I seriousley had my doubts. That, and RotJ was more epic.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

And i love Space battles. And i have never something as epic as the ones in RotJ.

Watched a film called HellBoy yesterday. Quite fun to watch even if the story is rather crappy. I suggest those who like a kinda fantasy action movie hire it.

I've seen three very good movies in the last few weeks, each one very different from the other. Knew only one of them, enjoyed them all.

Snatch - Excellent cast and acting, real good humor, and a plot that builds up as perfectly to the climatic moment where all the storylines were finally combined.

Coffee and Cigarettes - A collection of shorts, actually, featuring lots of well-known actors and musicians, like Bill Murray, Roberto Begnini, Iggy Pop, Alfred Molina, et cetera. Not for everyone, I suppose, the humor was very subtle (my favourite kind), and some scenes really simply took too long pointlessly.

Harold and Maude - A beautiful movie with lots of black humor, an interesting philosophy of life and powerful camerawork.

  • 3 weeks later...

Watched Flash Gordon today.

And i had a hard time deciding here to put. But i finally decided to put it here. Because even if its from 1980 and the story is weird... I found seing Timothy Dalton dressed up as a Robin Hood look alike and the acting very fun to watch and enjoyed the film.

But i could not help noticing many Star Wars similarities.

Example: the city of the bird men looks a bit like Bespin and how Gordon escapes made me think of Lukes escape.

And the forest planet has many similarities with Endor.

And the main agent of Empreor Ming (the bad guy) has a metalic mask which he wears all the time (who said darth vader?).

A film to watch

I liked Empire Strikes Back the most of the Star Wars movies. Another good movie was The Blackhole made by Disney as a Star Wars takeoff. Another good movie was Stalin with Robert Duvall - what can I say I like Stalin all of that power. Also "The Bunker" with Anthony Hopkins playing a convincing Hitler is a good movie.-Grand Moff Conway

I always thought ESB was the Ultimate SW movie of all time, The revelation of Vader being Luke's father was priceless.

I quite enjoyed Van Helsing and even if it wasn't the best film i ever saw it was action packed and fun to watch.

True Lies is a very amusing movie. But did you know it was based on a french movie which was even funnier.

I liked True Lies, great action flick. Enemy at the Gates was also good. And speaking of movies based on french movies, 12 Monkeys was based in La Jet, a french movie - both of which are good movies.
