Drucifer Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 Hello all. Finally found my Rebellion disk after I've upgraded to Service Pack 2, however, when I attempt an install, even with compatibility mode set for 95, 98, and 2000, it still gives me the following error" 16 bit Windows SubsystemC:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Micosoft Windows applications. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application. Gives me two buttons, "Close" and "Ignore" Upon chosing ignore, absolutely nothing happens and I'm stuck sitting here waiting for an install screen. Upon chosing close.. well, it closes. Has anyone else come across this error? And if so, have the solved it in any way? I miss playing this game, as old as it is.
Mad78 Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 I once came upon a problem like this. What happened was that Only when I was switching of the pc would it start up. And interrupt because of shutting down. I managed to solve the problem by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.Then I went into Processus (the second tag) and ended the msbb one.The installation started. Hope that helps. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Drucifer Posted September 2, 2004 Author Posted September 2, 2004 Unfortunately it did not help. I started the install, got the error, switched over to the Processes and could find no "msbb." Thank you for the try, though. I greatly appreciate it.
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 The problem could be in SP2. While I have yet to experience any of the abundant problems in the Service pack, they are there. You may be best to check with Microsoft's website and see if they have any solutions for your problem. Probably the only way you'll get around it is to un-install SP2, which creates problems of its own. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.
Mad78 Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 Keep on searching. It may, like for me, be something which is right in the middle of your screen but you haven't yetr thought of. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Drucifer Posted October 16, 2004 Author Posted October 16, 2004 Feel like a fool, but I found the reason I was getting that error. I finally got the game to work, on both SPs, and it was just that the afformentioned file wasn't in the direction, it had been moved to a repair folder somehow (Not my doing, I don't fudge around in the Win directory, my system is unstable enough!) Thanks for the support, though, folks! You guys are an awesome community and I most certainly will try to keep in touch with you all!
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted October 16, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted October 16, 2004 I believe that's a change of SP2. In other words, don't upgrade to XP SP2 Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.

SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted October 16, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted October 16, 2004 I'm not so sure you're right SS_Officer. Note the date of last review of this M$ tech article - not to say the XP SP2 is the direct cause of this, but I'd not rule it out.
