I don't really understand virus builders. Whats fun in destroying peoples pcs. I must say the first time i got on internet at home i was contaminated by the Blaster worm. A virus which makes your pc reboot after 5 minutes everytime you connect.

All I can say is that if you download a file always run a virus scan before you open it. Hope that helps.

Not only that but make sure you keep updating your virus scan regularly and as often as you can. It can get annoying trying to keep up with all the updates, but it's woth it.

Ouch, Cain. Sorry you were a victim of a PC virus. It's a real pain getting it back to normal (if possible). I wish you well in your reinstalling.

Woa, wait a second ! Not all files can be infected, so you surely won’t have to delete anything from your TC folders, except the .exe files. Although I’d wait with that as well. Also formatting will not always solve your problems, because many viruses have ways to avoid their demise, like copying themselves into the parts already formatted, ...

Go to http://www.sarc.com, there you can find special virus removal tools, that are cut down to find and terminate any of those critters. You can find the most likely one, that’s spooking your pc, by reading about it’s effects on that page.

Something I wouldn’t want to go online anymore is surely my trusted firewall. It keeps everything inside, that shouldn’t go anywhere else and also blocks out any unwanted stuff from the outside. There are some good freeware ones out there, like Zonealarm, or the one from Sygate.

Virus programmers ? Well, what is to say about them, except that they should grow up for god’s sake ?

As mawshiye said, keep the scanners updated, scan everything you downloaded and if it’s an archive, scan the files you unpacked from there as well :!:

Deepest sympathies Cain. No need to put a emoticon after your desire to kill virus-writers; if I ever meet someone who confesses to me to unleashing such crap it will be 50/50 whether I punch them so much in the face I reshade it dark purple or simply throttle them to a hair whisker of them breathing their last. And no pity. ***Spits at wreathing mass of pain***

If people have a problem with Bill Gates and Microsoft take the issue up with them, not the innocent consumer who a)May not have time to dedicate their live's to understanding PCs to protect themselveas from these vermin, b)have got otherthings to do with their lives than address the above in protecting their PC's from these vermin, c)Actually don't have a hang up with Bill Gates, but wouldn't really care that much if they did, and d)aren't sad neardy geeks who assume it will impress a girl telling her how much hassle their virus has caused.

I've been stung, and it was a right hassle. Trej muttered something obvious however, get a firewall. It's one defence against these sad loosers.

I just wish the tables could be turned and all their addresses be revealed, so all the people who've been screwed up by them, all the business' whose network's have been shut down, all the subsequent trade lost, and the drip-down to people suffering in the third world because of some scum-geek's issue with Microsoft products; can argue about who get's to coat them with petrol and ignite the match... no emoticon, I mean it.

Sorry to hear that Cain - I, too, wish that people like that would grow up - virus makes, spyware makers and viscous hackers (got nothing against them if they don't do damage). Can't they see all they're doing is annoying people, some people's entire life's work can get destroyed because of these fools - I'd like to use harsher language to describe these SOBs

I have no sympathy for those people. And like most, I've had virus' screw up things at home - killed a hard drive of mine with my Year 12 notes on it the night before the physics exam, my brother lost months of programming to the same virus.:x:evil:

Definetaly get a firewall - I've got one built into our family router, and after the first day of getting it, we looked at the log on the firewall - over 80 people tried probing through the firewall, in one night! Since then I've only gotten spyware.

And avoid Norton in the future. IMHO it's among the worst antivirii around there.

8O I just got Norton!!! Ummm, what anti-virus program do you suggest geting, I use to use VET - until they were bought out and went down hill - so I'm out of good anti-virus programs :?.

Oh, and the_mask - great website, though the link you gave has a comma after it (incase anyone was wondering why it didn't work :? )

Norton is an effective anti-virus program, but the fact that they've been creating new viruses to keep them selves in busines isa big turn off. I don't think there is any good free anti-virus programs out there, though Ad-aware is good for spyware.

Ad-Aware 6 is free, though some of the advanced features require you to register for a fee. You don't usually need to use them though.

There are a lot of spy-ware "removers" that are actually spy-ware themselves. You have ot be very careful with what you install for such things. The only problem I've ever had with spy-ware was wit hthe "about:blank" homepage. Very annoying, and it installs other spy-wayre on your system.

I downloaded a Ad-Aware from : http://www.telecharger.com (they have most of the free softwars and sharewars on the market and are very good for downloading. Its in french but easy to get around if you know what you are looking for :D )

And I found...

354critical objects which needed to be removed.

Yeah, depending on what type of websites you visit, you can get a lot of stuff. Some of it is harmless, gather info on you and such, but even those can slow your computer down. There are still those that do worse, and those are the ones to watch for.

Which one, the Spam Corps site, or the one above. I did look at the former (that is, the Spam Corps site), and I look forward to when the clan becomes active!

 Wow thanks guys ! Now I'm writting from my girlfriends PC....and tomorow I will format the C and reinstall WIn'98 (I like it more). My rebellion work is on the D ......so I will hope that I will be able to instal a antivirus that will remouve any problems on D ....or I will have to format again the C drive and also the D.

 That means I will loose the updated AEP ......anyway The PC starts very slow the Norton is disabled (and it was updated) and when I try to open windows stupid mesages pop up ...that I should go and buy stuff (to fix my problem) on some strange site .

 Hmmmm......will see. But I still feal like killing a Virus maker...damn russians. I suspect them to be behind my virus since they redirect me on a russian server suported page.

 Btw I also belive i have two viruses inside.

 One message is that I have a spy-ware virus and I need to buy spyware prigrams from that site. I can't move with this message poping up. And the other tries to send me on some russian pics stuff ...I can't see exactly since it' is not working properly.... the window seems damaged and he can't send me there. The Problem is that the net is bloked the PC moves like snail ..very slow. Alos if I let the PC open the messages pop out without net. Btw one time they tried to dail the phone by them selfs.

 I have tried to scan with the disabled Norton updated a day before but he can't find no viruses......so I strongly think formating is the only way.

Well, one of them sounds like a dialer. Spyware removal tools like Ad-aware should be capable of removing this, too.

Don't connect your modem to the phone, as long as it's active or you'll have an outrageous phone bill, if that dialer connects to their service provider. :?
