dodododo Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 Hello all, new questions! I got my first model done, a gallofree and now it needs texturing. I have followed the tutorials where lithunwrap pulls it apart, however the boxed version is very complex and difficult to decipher. Are there other programs that can take a model apart for texturing and lays the faces out a bit better, or how was it done before lithunwrap? (I don't need the transports texture, that would take the fun out of making it!) Thanx again. dodododo
GoldenShadow Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I don't even use LithUnwrap, all the texture tools you need are right there in 3D Studio Max. Use a UVWMAP modifier to set up the map orientation, then a unwrapUVW modifier to tweak it. I downloaded LithUnwrap only to convert .x format to .3ds format to load into max.
the_mask Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Hmmz, Lith is in my tutorial for a good reason: not everyone has 3dsmax, so I offered a free alternative with gmax. But since you can't export to 3ds there and md3s lose all their texture infos, you'll have to do the texturing 'outside' of gmax. As I wrote, there are several ways to do this and I do not claim this to be the fasted or most efficient method, but then again not everyone can afford max dodododo, if it helps you to see what belongs where, you can also select parts of your model and use the detach (to object) modifier and name the objects like hull, wing, ... That way you can select the objects in Lith and see, which faces belong to them. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
dodododo Posted July 21, 2004 Author Posted July 21, 2004 I will look at these options. I have one other confusion... 3dsmax 6 can export to 3ds format, l don't claim to know any method outside of advice give on this site, which I am gratefull for... thanx again for the info, I will try both and see what fits for me. Which program do you(s) recomend for creating textures?
the_mask Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 Yup, but I was talking about the freeware alternative 'gmax' and you have to work around a few corners to reach your goal there Graphic program ? As I wrote in my tutorial, whatever you feel comfortable with. It can be Photoshop as much as it can be Ms-Paint http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
