Jahled Posted May 13, 2004 Posted May 13, 2004 Old topic I know but... I'm on Windows 2000 Pro and have just had everything re-installed; with upto-date service packs. My game keeps on generating errors when I leave a tactical battle. Given 2000 isn't so removed from XP; I guess my updated version is bumping into the same errors as XP users have had: what can I do? May I suggest this is made a Sticky? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted May 14, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted May 14, 2004 Just try and get compatible DirectX drivers for your system. I have one that works just fine in Windows 2000 (with the right drivers), and one also running Windows 2000 that doesn't work (no compatible drivers). The newer video cards will support 2000/XP while the older ones mostly are Win9x only drivers. Jahled Posted May 14, 2004 Author Posted May 14, 2004 Sorry to sound thick E but how can I identify whther or not my current Direct X drivers are compatiple with Rebellion? It's quite strange given it has generated these errors as of yesterday! Nothing new has been installed for a while now, and Delta Force 2 is workine fine! http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Jahled Posted May 14, 2004 Author Posted May 14, 2004 Well i'll answer myself now I just figured out what's been causing the crashing; and this is quite curious. It would appear the game engine doesn't like it if you shuffle the game's original ship-models around. For example, I replaced the Alliance Dreadnaught model with the game's original Assault Frigae model, and the Vitory Star Destroyer I with the original Strike Cruiser Model. I'm reasonably certain of this, because I re-installed and tested; loaded my saved Tactical.Dll file with all the changes and crash after a tactical battle! But no problem with any new ship models! There for, how lovely it would be to have new Assault Frigate and Strike Cruiser models.... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted May 14, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted May 14, 2004 It really all depends whether your 3D drivers are working. I believe Rebellion uses Direct3D to enable its tactical battles. So how Direct3D enables your video card is determined by your video drivers. Maybe not enough video memory? Have no real help for you here. Jahled Posted May 14, 2004 Author Posted May 14, 2004 I think I was really shooting myself in the foot to begin with E, I should have suspected my problem was from what I previously analyzed... seems sort of obvious now! But thanks for your ear all the same!! http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
