IonFizzle Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 This is the official Imperial vs Alliance thread for the Homeworld 2 mod. I'll start. I think that the Alliance is vastly superior. Why? Well, for one thing individual ship quality is superior. Just look at the fightercraft. Then, you have cost. Alliance ships are typically cheaper to build than their Imperial counterpart. An MC-80 can trade fire with an ISD I on nearly equal footing. Which costs more? The ISD by a lot. I acknowledge that the Imperials have the real heavy hitters. The Vengeance SSD. The...*gulp* EXECUTOR SSD, which I have never seen in-game for its massive build time and cost but am going to try tonight. The ships that blacken the sky. That make a rebel commander crap his pants. BUT. These ships are enourmously expensive, and if they are destroyed, the destruction can cripple an Imperial foe. Indeed, what with the cost of the incredibly powerful Executor SSD, an Imperial player risks ALL for these ships. The rebel commander's ships are typically faster, and much more technologically and aesthetically superior. Challenge that argument, impies
DarthFelth Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 erm, as far as i read, a ISD1 bets a mc80 hands down, it takes 2 to take one down, imperial fighters are also alot cheaper to produce as they do not have shielding systems. Technologically and aesthetically superior, say waht the rebels are not more advance by far, alot of their ships were just sonverted civilian chips for starts, they were on the same tech lvl as the imperials, mon cals may oh had better shields, how ever ISD's had alot more gun for a start. http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
IonFizzle Posted April 17, 2004 Author Posted April 17, 2004 Aha, I acknowledge that Imperial fighter mass-production is very good, but the ISD has a critically awful design against fighters. The giantic, open shield towers? An ISD would cost BILLIONS of Imperial Credits to build, but a handful of rebel b-wings could bring one down with well placed torpedoes.
DarthFelth Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 thats a sensor dome, not a shield, this has been stated on like 100 fan sites, the orignal idea was for shield domes, but every person on the planet decided this was stupid http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
IonFizzle Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 I was going by Star Wars canon, my bad, I forgot that we were talking about the mod. I'll concede the sheild tower point, but what about the giant, bulbous power generator protruding from the bottom? not exactly an easy target to miss.
DarthFelth Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 no, but your forgetting when that ISD jumps out of space it can bring to bear alot more of it weapons to bear on a target that a MonCal can (well earlier designs) on a head one battle the ISD is gona win hand down, then you ahve the amount of support craft one can carry compared to a mon cal, i ahve alway reguarded Imperial pilots as better trained, why, well they dont do that bad considering fighters can only really take 1 hit, yeah you dont see X-wings rip them apart at the rate they should do *EDIT* talking about easy targets what about astrodroids on republic fighters, imperial ones that can hyper dont have these easy targets. http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
IonFizzle Posted April 19, 2004 Author Posted April 19, 2004 But remember that an ISD lacks any sufficient antifighter weaponry. Against massive fighter swarms (that cost BILLIONS less to build and maintain than even an Imperiator I let alone a II or a Executor) an ISD is savaged and even with a large complement of fighters, fighters can be destroyed if outnumbered enough
DarthFelth Posted April 19, 2004 Posted April 19, 2004 thats why you have support ships such as lancer frigates, nebulon B frigates (both types) i dont think anti fighter weaponary is a problem, remeber yes fighters can take it out, if its alone and unprepared, but you can take anything out is its alone and unprepared when you are prepared to take it, so that kina voids that example really, dont yay think, you also forgetting the ISD troop cap http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
Soltaris Posted April 21, 2004 Posted April 21, 2004 Faced against impossible fighter swarms, an ISD commander without support ships would still be hard to take down. He's likely to have his fighters aggress to buy enough time to make the jump to lightspeed.
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted April 21, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted April 21, 2004 Really, it is a lot harder than you'd believe to take down a Star Destroyer. The X-Wing sims really take the Rebels POV on this. Everyone is a hotshot pilot in those games.. obviously they would have severe weaknesses for the Star Destroyers, unlimited weaponry for the heroes, and a very good shot. You consider that an Imperial Star Destroyer has:275 gunners60 Taim and Bak XX9 Heavy Turbolaser Batteries LeGrange Targetting Computers 2 Om-Thaim Broadcast Banner Shield Generator rated at 300 SBD as well as 3 TIE Fighter Squadrons 2 TIE Interceptor Squadrons 1 TIE Bomber Squadron Really, you would need to throw a fleet against one. With the Rebels lack of resources, it is not likely you will see a whole wing of starfighters equiped with proton torpedoes. The situation against a Star Destroyer is overly rated against the Imperial crew, who are often cited for their incompetance, but are actually the best trained crew in the galaxy. We like to set the record straight for the Empire in the Star Wars Simulation. With superior leadership, tactical genius, and enormous resources, the Galactic Empire should not have fallen so easily to the Rebel forces. Yes, the movies are from a Rebel POV, but we like to make our own Empire much more of a model than the movies portray. HurinThalion Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Awesome. Well, from a historical point of view... The Imperial Empire -> The Roman Empire-The Roman Empire was just damn too cool.-Massive resources.-Superior military tactics. The Rebels -> The Jews.-Not to be anti-semetic... but the Jews were a constant thorn in the Romans' side....-Small group of resistance fighters that we're all sympathetic for. The Romans should just take a spear and stab the Jews in the side... particularly the King of Jews.... hahaha... and give him a crown of thorns. We all know what happens...
DarthFelth Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 what happened in star wars ant exactly the same, i mean the romans did have a super evil leader who could create lightning, or they didnt build super weapons that could blow up planets However the rebels should have lost at endor big time, i could go into the twig theory http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
DarthFelth Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 if han solo had never stepped on the twig then he wouldnt of alerted them troopers, avoiding the swoop bike chase, thus they wouldnt of meet the ewoks, they would have gone though the front door and been killed, fleet arrives, empire wins. ohh and the death of the rebel fleet and lukes friends would ahve turned him and vader and luke would have killed the emperor and ruled the galaxy as father and son, and why you, why indeed, cos of a BLOODY TWIG!!! http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
HurinThalion Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 Cool, never heard of the star wars twig theory before... learnt something new...
IonFizzle Posted April 26, 2004 Author Posted April 26, 2004 An even more far reaching theory is the hyperspace coordinate theory. When Han Solo left Yavin 4 to leave, Chewbacca kept harassing him to go back and fight with the rebels in the battle of yavin. Han Solo had their next jump plotted and he was about to jump when his concience took hold and he went back to yavin, saved luke, and thus the death star was destroyed. If he'd have jumped, the rebellion would have been wiped out at the battle of yavin. -source: Tales of the bounty hunters
DarthFelth Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 actually they went back cos they were robbed and didnt have any other options http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
IonFizzle Posted April 28, 2004 Author Posted April 28, 2004 My source was Tales of the Bounty Hunters. IF you can show another source I'll concede

DarthFelth Posted April 29, 2004 Posted April 29, 2004 and what does that book say about bossk? http://www.thegamingunion.co.uk/Forum/ubb/conquestBanner.jpgand come visit Galactic Conquest Online Website here
IonFizzle Posted April 29, 2004 Author Posted April 29, 2004 The Prize Pelt: The Tale of Bossk is actually a really good one. The book is 5 short stories that tie into each other seamlessly. All if it is Lucasfilm approved canon. The stories: Therefore I Am - The Tale of IG-88Payback - The Tale of DengarThe Prize Pelt - The Tale of BosskOf Possible Futures - The Tale of Zuckuss and 4-LOMThe Last One Standing - The Tale of Boba Fett
