The Farlander Papers & The Stele Chronicles

Did a bit of digging online, having never read 'The Farlander Papers' or 'The Stele Chronicles', and came across this site listed in the forums at TFN. Now, I'm not sure if it's complete, but it appears to have a recounting of 'The Farlander Papers' (anybody know Japanese? :D The last 4 of 5 pages is in English, though).

This brings me to the point of this topic. I was searching for images/info on Keyan Farlander and Maarek Stele for use as cards, and while there is a significant lack of suitable pics of the two of them, the only concrete information I've found is in the CUSWE. While this info is most suitable for a card, it has left me wondering about the 'history' of Maarek Stele, being that I never played TIE Fighter. Among my questions:

*Just when did these "Dark Side Prophets" enter into the picture, and how is it that Maarek Stele is a member of them?

*I've seen conflicting statements claiming that Stele is an Emperor's Hand on top of being an unrivaled pilot, Force Adept, etc. Is this true?

Anyway, any clarification anyone can give me, or better yet, a means of getting ahold of (or summarizing) 'The Stele Chronicles' and/or a complete version of 'The Farlander Papers' would be much appreciated. Also, I was a bit hesitant as to where to put this post, so if it's deemed to be inappropriate for this section, I'll gladly move it to the 'Rebed-Cards' section.

Thanks!

Let's see, I had the Farlander papers in my X-Wing collector's edition, but not the Stele chronicles.

Keyan Farlander from Agamar was an exceptional X-Wing pilot during he Rebellion. He didn't much care for politcs, until Mon Mothma held a speech on his planet and passing her famous "a call to reason" pamphlet around.

During his first mission, he helped to recover important documents. The CUSWE claims they were on a shuttle, but I remember, that in the Farlander papers there was a Corvette, that they disabled and boarded.

He was also in the battle of Yavin as a Y-Wing pilot and survived. In the NJO books he's a General and took part in the battle of Coruscant.

Maarek Stele was the hero in the Tie Fighter game. He was a Tie pilot and had a connection to the force. This lead to him being noticed by the Emperor's secret order, also known as the "prophets of the dark side". He eventually became a member and rose through their ranks, until Grand Admiral Zaarin planned to overthrow the Emperor. For his succesful rescue, at the side of Darth Vader, Stele became an Emperor's Hand and flew with his master's personal escort squadron, "the Emperor's sword". After the battle of Endor he joined Fel's 181st wing.

I found a picture of him a few days ago, on a page Trej (I think) found. It was from a guy, that Trej thought also painted for Dark Horse, IIRC. I'll mail it to ya right away.

The prohets themselves could be seen as a group in Imperial Intelligence. They are all trained to use the dark side and make sure their visions of certain battle events come true.

Hmm...it baffles me to think that Lucasarts didn't attempt to make more out of these two pilots and their associated histories. I mean, Kyle Katarn is all but canon now, as is Dash Rendar. But here you have two ace pilots (no Azameen pun intended) that would serve as excellent rivals, a shadowy organization within the Empire in the "Prophets", and a chance to expand on the role of the "Emperor's Hands". The fact that the two of them are mere footnotes in the EU is...well...shameful, IMHO.

Thanks for the info, Mask, and I look forward to that e-mail!

I think it was La Forge who found it, I only identified it as one of the DArk Horse artists.

Stele's story in TIE Fighter tells what the Empire was up too between the Battle of Hoth and the Battle for Endor. The betrayal of Zaarin and the promotion of Thrawn.

Farlander's story takes place before Yavin and even stretches a bit after it. The early battles of the Rebels.

It's a pity that LEC decided to abandon the stories and altogether to concept of combat flight sims in the X-W series style... Yet one more reason to storm Skywalker Ranch
