I'm redoing my models to be spiffier, and I ran into something that I can't figure out.

I followed the steps on the help page, just like I've done a dozen times before.

My model shows up fine in RebEd, but it is still the old model in the game.

I've checked, and I'm saving the tactical.dll file.

Help!

the mystery deepens. I can now see it in rebed, and sometimes in the game (although it flickers and parts go transparent at times).

But when I try to switch two other ships around (which I've done before) suddenly ALL my models disappear from Rebed, and the game crashes before entering tactical mode.

Is the problem that my new model is ~2400 polygons?

Nah, the magical border is 10,000 per model. Above that the game might slow down with big fleets.

You did replace all three models per ship, right ?

The transparent thing is being done by the engine most of the times, no way around that so far. :?

Dunno what that with the crash before the battle is. Usually, if two or more models link to the same texture file the game crashes after the battle.

Try taking a fresh tactical.dll from the CD and importing the models with my import program.

Figured out your model importer. Very cool, thanks!

I also notices the Sovreign and Eclipse... two of my favorite ships, are over 10000 (11k and 12k). I hope it runs decently with them?!?

And the replacement SSD is 22k!!!!!!!!!! Ouch. Back to the 6k for me.

No disrespect to the main man, The_Mask, but:

If you are experiancing difficulty with operating his excellant model-importer program (it is a little tricky to get your head around) you can still import his superb new models into the game the old fashioned way using resource-hacker...

The replacements for the Nebulon-Frigate and Corellion Corvette are the best i've ever seen, and if you want a replacement card for the corvette that really rocks to the extreme, check out Lord_La_Forge's recent upload of a Corellian Corvette; it is the best ship card I have ever seen. 8):wink:

By using Mask's new model for the Nebulon you also get the opportunity to do something that has bugged me for years, replace the Bulk Cruiser with something better for the rebels from the outset, that is also got more of a Star Wars feel...

jahled - love your spacehopper by the way

I also have wanted something better than the bulk cruiser. I love the Radiant vii/Diplomat Class Corellian Cruiser you see in the comic books/Episode 1, so I made a model of it.

Hopefully, soon you will get to see it and I hope it also makes an interesting replacement. It is basically a weaker Carrack Cruiser with the advantage of trademark Correllian speed. After all, the Republic would not want a slow vessel to cart it's Jedi around in...

Hehehe, once you got the model importer working you'll see, that it eats pratically everything, as I described in the readme.

You can either give it an rmd file, 3 .x models (close, medium, far) and its .bin textures, an untextured, single .x file, or even the galaxy background or some fighters. I thought I'd better make it flexible, so I wouldn't have to write something else to cover these areas as well

Edit: Btw, Jahled: Confucius says "if two of you travel with me, then one can be my teacher" 8)
