Probably because he saw no other alternative, than the golden path either.

Maybe death was this alternative, although that also doesn't sound right, since he was surprised, that Leto took it.

It is probably one of the sole special effects to make, since there are no really heavy things happening in God-Emperor of Dune

 

And when it comes to Heretics and Chapterhouse... Yeah we can use some special effects. Really curious to the non-ships, don't know what to expect. If I am correct they are very different from the type ship Rabban used. They seem to be able of folding-space-travel.. do they have Ixian Navigator machines? Strange

The only other effect in GodEmperor would be the big city and the caves below, as I recall.

 

Heretics would definately need more, just for the tricks of Duncan and that Bashar, who's name I forgot.

Chapterhouse ? ... ... Oh my, I knew I forgot to read one of the books. Gotta add that to my list, once I start reading Force Heretic III and need to order new books at Amazon
