Guest Scathane Posted January 19, 2004 Posted January 19, 2004 I just watched the Children of Dune miniseries (parts 1 to 3) last Saturday and I must say, I thought they were brilliant! I was wondering, though... In the last part, when Stilgar is marching on to Arrakeen with his Sietch, he makes camp a few miles outside of Arrakeen. During the evening, Alia is watching him through some kind of binoculars. The camera switches to the view she has through the binoculars twice and during those shots, you can see lettering above her viewscreen. Now, the shots weren't quite sharp but, is it just me or was I right in thinking that the lettering in question is strikingly similar to Star Wars Imperial lettering?
the_mask Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 That's right, my Dutch friend I think you can also see that in the first Dune movie with William Hurt and Alec Newman as Muaddib, when Paul is looking at the imperial palace, before attacking it.Been hunting for these dvds for a long time, about 2-3 years for the first one, only to finally find them both in a video rental a few weeks ago http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 I knew it! Has anyone deciphered what is says yet?
the_mask Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 I thought you would be our "very foreign" language expert here Either it says something about the distance, magnifying level, or there are secret messages included .... http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 I would like to think I am but it's just that I haven't seen the characters quite clearly...
the_mask Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Maybe I can send you some stills around the weekend to keep you busy http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 That would be nice, please forward them to jurgen@thinknow.nl
the_mask Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Well, I couldn't find any of those in the first Dune, although I could swear there was a scene with them, but I sent you the one from my DVD of Children of Dune. Let us know, when you're done with deciphering that pic. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Well, if I use the Aurabesh font and convert it to Arial, this is what I get: .hris zapara area51 b iteme.youre sts wat.nh.g? i. ant beleve it The dots you see are letters, I couldn't make out. It's funny though, that it quite clearly says area 51. The last sentence, I believe, should read I can't believe it.
Lord_La_forge Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 WOW! Superb Eastern Egg! Didn't notice that one. I'll have to take a look. Any pics of it?
the_mask Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Well, I'm currently at work, but maybe Scath can send you the pic. I make this from the sentences: Here is zapara (? maybe a name) area51 bite me. You're watching this ? I can't believe it. Now at least this made some sence, compared to the screen in Vader's shuttle in ROTJ http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Bingo, mask! We've deciphered it! Here's the correct message: Chris Zapara - area51 - bite me! you’re still watching? I can’t believe it Chris Zapara is a visual FX artist. Zapara received Emmy Awards for his work on both "Dune" and "Children of Dune."
the_mask Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Ah, these animators, always ready for a joke. That reminds me of some movie sequence I wanted to have in the credits movie of the TC ... hehehe http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Yes, that one particular sequence..., heh heh I would like to be part of that! Back to the Children of Dune Easter Egg... I am inclined to believ that we're the first two individual in the world to figure this one out, mask!
the_mask Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Woohoo And what are we going to do tomorrow night, Scath ?The same thing we do every night, Mask. We try to take over the world Sorry, couldn't resist. About the scene, that's not the 'stick-em-up' one, if you meant that, I rather meant 'outtakes' http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

I'm sorry to break it to you guys. Someone on the web said: 3. Children of Dune was also written by John Harrison but directed by Greg Yaitanes. Children is the first movie that comes even close to capturing my idea of the novel. It was great! Maybe Harrison was getting more comfortable with the material the second time around. Children also contains a neat little "easter egg" (a secret message): budget was tight, so they used the Aurabesh font from Star Wars for the read-out on Alia's electrobinoculars. The Lead Computer Graphics Animator for Children of Dune was the way-talented Chris Zapara, from Area 51 Films. Translated into English, the Aurabesh reads "Chris Zapara, Area 51, BiteMe." For the page click here. Sorry. [/url] http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif

Trejiuvanat Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 I'll grant you that Scath. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Lord_La_forge Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Awesome site!!!Frank Herberts Dune was just excellent to read, and the first movie was also fantastic..

Lord_La_forge Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I saw a series based on Dune, made for Television. Quite crappy production with bad actors and awful effects. The story is still good. I hope we're speaking of to different films. If not, I'll have to see it again
the_mask Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 We mean the 3 movies-series with William Hurt, Alec Newman and Uwe Ochsenknecht . I like them way better than the old movie with Sting and Jürgen Prochnow, cause this one actually sticks very close to the books and doesn't invent fancy stuff like voice enhancers and such...The second series includes the books 'Dune Messiah' and 'Children of Dune'. Having to see Muaddib blinded and then killed by a 'mere' disappointed onlooker is quite unsettling. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

the_mask Posted February 17, 2004 Posted February 17, 2004 Well, all the time you see him as this super-being, who knows everything in advance. By that time he did so much things, survived so many deadly events and wouldn't see that guy from crowd coming to stab him ?I ask myself, if he wanted it to be that way, also having your favourite character killed is always unsettling The same thing happened later with Leto, although he saw it coming then. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest Scathane Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Who's to say he didn't see it coming?
