Can you brief describe yourself for the community?

Sageking: Well in a nutshell, I graduated USC in Los Angeles, Go Trojans! Have been playing RTS games all my life, since C&C Tiberian Dawn. After college I did some work in China, then some PR work for gaming companies in Los Angeles, and now I’m here at Petroglyph supporting our awesome EAW community! I’ve always been quite active in various gaming communities, mostly RTS.

2. Is this your first job in the game industry?

Sageking: This is indeed my first job ‘specifically’ in the gaming industry, though as mentioned earlier, I have done PR work (Public Relations) for video game clients before.

3. When/How were you first learn about this job at Petroglyph?.

Sageking: Found this job on gamasutra.com, and was like ‘hey! I can do that!’ Funny thing is Petroglyph is made up mostly of ex- Westwood Studios and I had applied there when I was 13 yrs old and a huge Command & Conquer fan.

4. What are some things you do on a daily basis at Petroglyph?

Sageking: My daily agenda changes all the time, as things change so quickly in this industry. But the staples of my job are keeping the community informed via mailings/forums about Petroglyph news and vice versa. Believe it or not, Petroglyph always wants to hear about what you guys are up to! Also, planning events (contests/tournaments), interviewing staff/community members (podcasts/community spotlights), conducting meetings with community leaders, writing press releases/game updates, meeting media contacts (i.e. IGN/Gamespot interviews), and getting our upcoming Petroglyph Community Site setup are all often on the to-do list.

5. Do you have any recommendations for those who want to join the gaming industry?

Sageking: First off, find out what you love to do. In any industry, the more you understand about your own interests, the more you know about how you’ll fit your unique contribution in the big picture. If you love modding, it would be a nice transition into game programming. If you like creating new unit models, perhaps a modeler or artist role will be better. Find your niche, know your interests. The next step is to build your network. Find your favorite companies and start talking to them via forums, emails, etc… You’d be amazed in the interest level that devs have for fans. We do make these games for you guys J The more people you know in the industry you want to be in, the more doors will naturally open up.

6. Any closing comments or information?

Sageking: Keep up the good work modding! I’m quite confident many of these mods will increase the replay value tremendously! We will be launching our Petroglyph Community Site soon, so stay tuned to petroglyphgames.com.

I for one am glad we get to learn a little more about the man who has taken charge of leading this community.

Adventures for the part time explorer

http://www.miniquest.com/images/misc/logo.jpg

Before the time when EaW was born a small team of Westwood explorers try to enjoy theyr free time and explore the past history of their desert land.

They look into Las Vegas history :

Las Vegas has a rich history and geography that includes Indians, early pioneers, snowcapped mountains, mining, railroads, ranching, spectacular rock formations, mining, gambling, mobsters, nuclear testing, mining, wild horses, rivers, lakes, and last but not least, mining. We wanted to know the answer to that question. We wanted to know right now! We quickly gathered a group to explore. Due to the short notice we had a small group and small groups have the advantage of being able to easily change their trip plan mid-trip. This turned out to be good because the only item on our trip agenda was to see if we could reach Dead Man's Canyon, that according to the map, was located to the north of Las Vegas within a large area marked Desert National Wildlife Range. The area we wished to explore was relatively near Las Vegas, so we decided to start a bit later than some of our other adventures. After a quick breakfast we depart northward along highway U.S. 95. According to the map, there were two roads we could choose to take. One led to the Indian reservation and the other led to Corn Creek. We reached the Indian reservation road first, but it was paved and looked entirely too tame for us. We proceeded to the next turn off and thankfully, it was a dirt road.
