General Information
-------------------
 a) Installing and Uninstalling
Please make sure you have enough free space on your hard
drive in order to play. We have found that if you have less
than 20 MB of free space on your hard drive after installing,
you may not be able to start the game.

See the Online Troubleshooting Guide for more information
    regarding space requirements.

 b) Check Your Available Hard Drive Space
Please check your available hard drive space before choosing
your installation size. If you have too little free space on
your hard drive after installation, you may be unable to
start the game. Too little space on a hard drive could also
affect Windows 95, which needs room for its swap file. You
will need to have up to 150 MB of free space on your hard
drive while playing Star Wars Rebellion for the Windows 95
Swap File. This space will be cleared when you finish
    playing the game.

 c) Game Crash Issues
If the game unexpectedly freezes up, returns you to your
desktop, or if you experience any other severe problems, you
should try to properly exit Windows and reboot your computer
(As a rule, you should never turn off your computer while
the hard drive is active.) This will help to prevent
possible problems related to the error that you have
    experienced.

If you end up at a black screen or the screen appears
frozen, please press ESC, Space Bar, or Enter before trying
    anything else.

 d) Save/Load Screen
To save a game by a new name, click in the next available
save game slot and type a name. If you want to save over a
previously saved game, click on the Save icon next to the
name of the saved game that you want to replace.

 e) Save Game Before Exiting
Make sure that you choose save before exiting the game. You
will not be prompted to save upon exit.

 f) Naming Saved Games
When you save your game, click in the box and type a name for
your saved game. If you encounter a blank saved game slot with
an enabled load button, you may have saved a game without
    naming the game.

 g) Task Switching (or ALT+TAB)
If you need to return to your desktop while playing Star
Wars Rebellion, please use the ALT + TAB combination to task
switch. We recommend that you go to the Options Screen
    before task switching.

 h) Task Switching While the Game is Paused
When you task switch while the game is paused, when you
return to the game the pause dialog box may not be centered
on screen. You will not be able to click on the Resume Game-
play Button. Press ENTER to dismiss the dialog box and
    return to the game.

 i) Corrupted Font in Message Screen
The font in the unread message screen may be corrupted and
hard to read if you are using the original version of
Windows 95. This is because the first releases of Windows
95 do not support this font. Please contact Microsoft for
    more information.

 j) Set Tooltips to White in Windows 95 Desktop Properties
When playing Star Wars Rebellion on systems with certain
video cards or when the color is set to yellow or gray, the
tooltips may appear to be thatched or have a yellow dotted
effect, making it hard to read the tooltips. Changing the
tooltip color to white corrects this problem.

To do this: Right-click on your desktop, choose Properties
from the Pop-down menu, click on the Appearance Tab, click
on the arrow below Items and scroll down through the list
until you see Tooltips, then click on Color next to it and
    choose White.

 k) Laptop Systems
Star Wars Rebellion has not been tested with laptop systems
and therefore we cannot guarantee compatibility. Due to the
wide variety of hardware configurations that ship with
today's laptop systems, it would be impossible to configure
a game that would work with all of them. Many laptops are
limited in their ability to be used as gaming machines
because of memory configurations, their microchannel
architecture, port configurations and sound systems that are
primarily designed to be used with productivity software.

The other common problem is that laptop systems will attempt
to compress the traditional version of the standard 101
function keyboard (found on almost all desktop systems) into
a much smaller key configuration. This is usually done by
relying on multi-function keys that allow the user to assign
different functions to the same key. Unfortunately, this has
been known to cause problems with our games.

Gameplay Issues
---------------
 a) Blockaded Planets
When a planet is blockaded, the message from your agent may
not appear before the planet is taken over. This is because
it takes a while for the message to get to you. The blockade
is a transitory step in the assault or bombardment process.
Undefended planets can be assaulted very quickly.

 b) Units in Hyperspace
When you move fighters or other ships to a new location,
they will appear in the fleet, but you will notice a blue
flame on the engines of the ship indicating that the ships
have not yet arrived at their destination.

 c) Red X in Fleet Window
When looking at the Fleet Window, you may see a red X in the
window. The red X indicates that the hyperdrive is damaged
on one of the ships in your fleet. Double-click on the fleet
icon to see exactly which ships in that fleet have damaged
    hyperdrives.

 d) Force Growth Messages
If you receive a Force Growth message saying, "My recent
experiences have caused an increase in my abilities in the
Force," your character will earn 1 point. It takes several
of these events for them to increase their Force Ranking.

 e) Loyalty of Colonized Planets
Rim systems that have never been colonized by either side
do not have their loyalty affected by events elsewhere in
    the Galaxy.

 f) Refined Materials are Necessary to Build Manufacturing
    Facilities
You may order construction of any item, including Manu-
facturing Facilities, even if you run out of refined
materials, but the building of the item(s) will be delayed
until the materials become available. Make sure that you pay
attention to all of your resources to assure your ability to
strengthen your forces. The manual includes a tutorial to
help you understand the steps that you need to take to
    ensure your success.

 g) Attacking a Death Star with One Fighter Group
Even when you bring several fighter groups to a battle, only
one can participate at a time in an attack on the Death Star.

 h) Changes in Production Cause Progress to Start Over
If you start production of an item, then later change the
number of items being produced, you will lose all of the
production progress that you have made so far. Wait until
the production of the first items is complete, then build
more of that item instead of changing the amount before they
    are done.

 i) Hyperdrive Ratio Rating
A ship's hyperdrive rating is located in the status window
(view by right-clicking on the ship) The smaller the hyper-
drive rating, the shorter the travel time in Star Wars
Rebellion. Two hyperdrive ratio numbers that do not match
indicate that the hyperdrive for that ship is damaged and
that ship will travel slower than it would if it was
undamaged. The number on the left is the current hyperdrive
rating, while the number on the right is the rating that
ship would have if it was not damaged.

 j) Cannot Assault or Bombard when Ships in Fleet are Under
    Construction
If you have a fleet in which at least one ship is under
construction, you will not be able to assault or bombard a
planet with that fleet. You must move completed ships to a
new fleet to be able to attack, or wait until all ship con-
struction to that ship is complete.

 k) One Ship in Task Force
When you have one ship in your fleet, you will be unable to
break up your Task Force. You must have at least two ships
in the fleet to break up the Task Force.

 l) Rank of Officers
Combat rating has no effect on attaining the rank of
General. Leadership is the key statistic to attain this
    status.

 m) Tactical Status Text
When playing Star Wars Rebellion in the tactical mode, there
occasionally will be text in the upper portion of the 3D
window providing you information concerning the status of
the tactical game. The most common occurrence is at the on-
set of a tactical battle at which time you will see text
displaying, "Battle Paused". Of course "Battle Paused" will
also display whenever you pause the tactical game. There is
also the text message, "Observe Battle" indicating that you
are not commanding, but observing the tactical battle.

 n) Observe Battle Mode
When playing Star Wars Rebellion in the tactical game, you
may choose to let the computer fight the battle for you.
After choosing Observe Battle Mode, the computer will take
command of your forces, re-deploy your capital ships into
new task forces and issue new target orders and tactics to
all fighter groups and newly created task forces. The
computer will issue attacks upon a Death Star as appro-
priate. Note that while in this mode, the computer will
fight to the finish for you, and will never withdraw. If
you want to withdraw, you must give the order.

 o) Tactical Death Star Withdrawal Time
When playing Star Wars Rebellion in the tactical game
involving a Death Star, the time required to withdraw the
Imperial fleet is greatly increased due to the gravita-
tional effects of the Death Star. The Imperial player will
not be able to withdraw the Death Star before the Alliance
would have a chance at completing a Death Star attack run
    mission.

 p) Opening and Closing Windows while Cursor is in Target Mode
When your cursor is in target mode (such as when a Mission
is selected from a character's right click menu), holding
the shift key down will temporarily change the cursor back
to the arrow. While in arrow mode, you may open or close
windows to reveal and access your desired destination or
target. Releasing the shift key will return the cursor to
    target mode.

Multiplayer Issues
------------------
 a) No Games Found
When attempting to find a game, you will not be prompted
with a message if no game is found. You will need to cancel
out of the screen if no game names appear after 2 minutes.
At this point you can go back in and search for another
    game.

 b) Entering an IP address for TCP/IP Internet Games
When connecting through a TCP/IP Internet, you will be
prompted with a dialog box that says "Enter the computer
name or the IP address of the session host, or leave blank
to search". It is necessary to enter an IP Address when you
are joining an Internet game. Do not leave this box blank
and click OK to allow it to search the Internet. This
search feature is for use on a TCP/IP LAN, not the Internet.

 c) Starting a Multiplayer Game
We recommend that you wait until both players are finished
with the introduction before going to the options screen.

 d) Players Dropping Out or Losing Your Internet Connection
When a player loses their connection to the Internet or
drops out of the game due to a system crash, it will take
around 2 to 3 minutes for a message to appear telling you
that the player has left the game. At first, the opponent
will continue to be able to move around and open various
windows, but time will stop for both players. After about
1 minute, it may appear that the opponent has locked up,
but the game is actually waiting for the message to appear.

 e) Playing Star Wars Rebellion on the Internet Gaming Zone
When playing Star Wars Rebellion on the Internet Gaming
Zone, the Zone launches the game and takes you directly into
the game. If you decide to return to the Cockpit, you will
no longer have access to that Zone game. If you want to play
another game on the Zone, quit Rebellion and return to the
Zone to start another game. If you are quitting out of the
Zone to play a single player game, make sure that you dis-
connect from the Internet before you start the next game.

 f) "Awaiting Opponent Response" Tactical Status Text
In a two player game, if your machine is not paused, you
may occasionally see the text message "Awaiting Opponent
Response". This indicates that your machine is ready to pro-
ceed, but is waiting for some action by the other player's
machine to continue. This message will display if the other
    player:
    * pauses the game
    * tasks away to another application
    * has network trouble, or
    * is still in transition to or from the strategic game.

 g) Multiplayer Options Screen
In the Multiplayer option screen the disconnect button will
take you back to the cockpit and remove your game from the
    active game list.

Manual Errata
-------------
 a) Death Star Tactical Controls
When you, as the Empire, take the Death Star into battle,
the Death Star control is added above the tactical control
panel. It consists of a Death Star image (to tell you what
it's for), a charge indicator (which tracks the charge of
the Death Star laser) and a fire button (which allows you
to fire the weapon.) To blow up ships with the Death Star,
first click on the fire button. The cursor will change to a
target. Right click on the ship you wish to destroy. When
the game is not paused, the laser will blow up the ship. In
order to fire again, you need to wait until the charge in-
dicator shows that the laser is fully recharged. If you
decide not to use the Death Star after you have pressed the
fire button, left click anywhere in the tactical battle dis-
play to dismiss the control. You cannot target fighters or
the planet within the tactical portion of the game.

 b) Incorrect Icon
On page 108 of the manual, the icon next to Troop Training
    Design is the incorrect icon.

 c) Typo on Page 108
The text for the Sabotage Mission reads, "You target the
Death Star with this mission". It should read "You cannot
target the Death Star with this mission."

 d) Alliance HQ Under Blockade
If there is a big enough fleet blockading the planet where
the Alliance HQ is located, it cannot be moved from under
    blockade.
